Resident of Ingushetia convicted of damaging clan tower in Beyni

After finding a resident of Ingushetia guilty of destroying the masonry of a historic tower in the village of Beyni, a court has sentenced him to compulsory labour. In the same Djeirakh District, a medieval crypt collapsed after being damaged by vandals.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, the court sentenced a resident of the Djeirakh District, who had destroyed the arch of a historic tower in Beyni in order to sell stones thereof, to compulsory labour. In August, another person was sentenced for the same offence.

In December 2019, workers of the museum-reserve in Ingushetia asked the police to find the people destroying historical towers in the village of Beyni. Murad Daskiev, the head of the Council of Teips of the Ingush people, said that those involved in the destruction of the towers had been detained. According to his story, they transported arched ceilings to Chechnya. This statement provoked violent online discussions among Chechen and Ingush users.

The court has found another local resident guilty of damaging the "Barer Gala" Tower in the fall of 2019. According to the verdict, he knocked out stones from the masonry of the 15th-16th centuries tower aiming to use them in the construction of some outbuilding. He failed to take out the stones because of the blurred roads.

A medieval crypt has collapsed in the Djeirakh District after its masonry was damaged by vandals, the "Interfax" reports citing the Ingush Ministry of Culture.
