Azerbaijani citizen claims being unable to return home from Dagestan

For several months, the family of Nadir Shakhbazov has been unable to reunite with their daughter in Azerbaijan because of the closed border with Dagestan and irregular departure of people to their homeland. The family members have to rent an apartment and are short of money to pay tickets for a plane.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after September 27, when the hostilities began in Nagorno-Karabakh, one group of Azerbaijani citizens left Dagestan and was sent home only on October 20. By December 6, about 500 citizens of Azerbaijan were awaiting to be sent home.

Azerbaijani citizen Nadir Shakhbazov says that his family has not been able to reunite for a year already. He came to Russia in 2019 to apply for a residence permit in Russia. However, after that, the man faced the problem with returning home, since the coronavirus restrictions had already been imposed.

Residents of a camp near the Kullar village complained of uncertainty about the return to their homeland and poor living conditions.

A wife and a child of Nadir Shakhbazov stay together with him, and they are citizens of Russia. The eldest daughter of Nadir Shakhbazov stayed with relatives in Azerbaijan, and they are looking forward to the return of the Nadir Shakhbazov's family. The man together with his family members arrived at the border area with the hope to cross the border on September 29, but the departure was cancelled due to the escalation of the Karabakh conflict.
