Mishustin treats Adygea and Kalmykia as problem regions

After his visit to Adygea and Kalmykia, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has claimed that the republics remain the regions with the most difficult social and economic situation. The leaders of Adygea and Kalmykia failed to properly use the Russian Prime Minister's visit to solve the "systemic problems" of their republics, political analyst Andrei Reshetov notes.

On February 9, at an action meeting with his deputies, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin spoke about his visits to the regions "with the most difficult social and economic situation." "Recently, there were visits to Karelia and Kalmykia, and yesterday (February 8), a working trip to Adygea ended [...] Such business trips show that these regions cannot yet fully develop without the help of the federal centre," said Mikhail Mishustin.

The Russian Prime Minister has recalled "the individual development programmes were developed" for each of the above-mentioned regions, and up to 2024 inclusive, a billion roubles are to be allocated annually for the implementation of those programmes.

In Adygea, Mikhail Mishustin and Dmitry Patrushev, a supervisor of the republic, did not show in public any interest in the region's main investment projects, including the Lago-Naki ski resort and the Yablonovsky industrial park, political analyst Andrei Reshetov notes.

"With the apparently calm situation in Adygea, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted the weak economy of the region. Moreover, judging by the final speech delivered by the chair of the Cabinet of Ministers, the federal centre is not interested in even the priority projects that the government of the republic was actively promoting," Andrei Reshetov said.

According to the political analyst's version, the leaders of Adygea and Kalmykia "failed to properly use" the Russian Prime Minister's visit to solve the "systemic problems" of their republics.
