Armenia claims over 100 its citizens in Azerbaijani captivity

The exact number of prisoners of war (POWs) and civilians remaining in Azerbaijani captivity is unknown, the chief plenipotentiary of Armenia for the Diaspora matters has stated today. There are women among those in captivity, Armenian MPs have noted today, calling on the world community to pay attention to the problem.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azerbaijan had handed over to the Armenian party all the militaries who had been captured during the battles in Nagorno-Karabakh; only "saboteurs" remain in captivity, Ilham Aliev, President of Azerbaijan, said on February 26.

More than a hundred citizens of Armenia remain in Azerbaijan – they are POWs and "detained persons," Zare Sinanyan, the chief plenipotentiary of Armenia for Diaspora matters, has stated today.

"I know that there are more than a hundred of them, but I don't have the exact figure," Mr Sinanyan has said today in an interview with the RIA "Novosti".

Today, the Armenian MPs have adopted, with 120 votes in favour, a statement condemning Baku's policy in relation to Armenian POWs and civilians, including women, kept in captivity in Azerbaijan. The MPs called on international structures to condemn Azerbaijan's actions.
