Five persons picket in support of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev

The participants of the pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, held in Makhachkala, have opposed unjustified arrests and political persecutions. Passers-by supported the picketers less actively than usual, one of the picketers said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev's colleagues and friends are regularly holding protest actions in Makhachkala demanding his release.

Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" charitable foundation, Kemal Tambiev and Abdulmumin Gadjiev were detained as suspects of financing of terrorism. Investigators believe that Gadjiev and his alleged accomplices had raised 68 million roubles and 200,000 US dollars for terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. Gadjiev insists on his innocence. His colleagues treat his persecution as pressure on him.

On Monday (March 22), five solo pickets were held in Makhachkala, Idris Yusupov, a journalist, has informed.

According to his story, the first picket was held by Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik"; he called for the release of Gadjiev and an end to his persecution.

According to Yusupov, policemen took written explanations from each picketer about the aim of their action.
