Transgender girl beaten up in Tbilisi
In central Tbilisi, two unidentified persons beat up a 17-year-old transgender girl, after which she needed hospitalization. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has declared the attackers wanted.
On Friday evening, in Tbilisi, in Beijing Street, two unknown persons insulted the minor girl because of her appearance and then beat her up, the "Echo of the Caucasus"* reported on April 30. "They insulted her on the basis of transphobia. They were complete strangers, just passers-by," the publication quotes Madona Kiparoidze, an activist, as stating. She added that after the intervention of eyewitnesses, the attackers fled.
The attacked transgender girl is 17; apart from beating her, the attackers also smashed her mobile phone and stole her wallet and bag. The victim was taken to hospital, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reported on April 30.
The Georgian MIA opened a criminal case under the article on violence motivated by intolerance based on gender identity, which provides for up to one year in prison, and put the attackers on the wanted list, the "Sputnik-Georgia" has reported.
