Court leaves Eldar Gasanov in custody
The Baku Court of Appeal (CoA) has rejected the complaint lodged by Eldar Gasanov, a diplomat, whose arrest was extended until August 3, 2021, despite his deteriorating health, the "Turan.az" wrote on May 8 with reference to his advocate, Djavad Djavadov.
According to the advocate, Gasanov himself failed to appear in person at the CoA's session due to his health problems. The advocate has also recalled that the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) had decided on Gasanov's urgent transfer to the military hospital of the Azeri State Security Service (SSS), medical examination and surgery, but "his condition remains grave, and no measures are taken," the "haqqin.az" reports
Eldar Gasanov has been under arrest since August 2020 in connection with the case of employees of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), suspected of abuse, bribery and embezzlement of budget money. Gasanov has declared his innocence. The ECtHR sent a request to the Azerbaijani government in connection with Gasanov's health condition.
