South Ossetia extradites to Georgia a man sentenced for border violation

Today, a 45-year-old Alan Djaparidze, who was detained at the border on January 10, has been handed over to the Georgian authorities, the KGB of South Ossetia reports. The Tskhinvali District Court found the man guilty of illegally crossing the border and sentenced him to a year of suspended imprisonment, the South-Ossetian KGB reported on its Facebook page.

As of 5:10 p.m. Moscow time on May 14, the State Security Service of Georgia has not posted on its official website any comments regarding the information reported by the KGB of South Ossetia.

On July 3, 2020, simultaneously with the international human rights organization “Amnesty International” (AI), the “Caucasian Knot” released the report “Behind the barbed wire. Human rights violations as a result of ‘borderisation’ in Georgia”. According to the report, the restrictions on crossing the line of demarcation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia violate the rights of residents of border villages who can hardly maintain their household activities and risk being detained.
