Yerevan activists oppose agreement with Baku

In Yerevan, protesters called on the country residents to prevent the signing of the border treaty with Azerbaijan announced by Nikol Pashinyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 20, the activists who gathered at the building of the Armenian government spoke against the agreement with Azerbaijan announced by the Premier Pashinyan. Nine people were detained, and Zarui Postandjyan, the head of the "Apricot Country" Party, was injured.

The bill prohibiting Pashinyan from signing a border agreement with Azerbaijan without the parliamentary approval failed to win the required number of votes.

On Friday (May 21), about 50 activists came again to the government building demanding not to sign the agreement on border demarcation and delimitation with Azerbaijan.

The power was supposed to change on November 9, 2020, but the authorities then managed to stifle people's indignation, Vardan Srtashyan, an activist from Gyumri, has stated. He called on the army and the church to become the core for national unity.

"The scattered political leaders are pursuing exclusively their own goals, while neglecting the national interests," said Grair Kostanae, another activist. He believes that a national liberation struggle is needed to save the statehood.
