Reconciliation of blood feudists in Chechnya sparks controversy over laws and Adats

The village of Makhkety, Vedeno District, has seen a ceremony of reconciliation of the families-participants in a road accident, in which two villagers, Deni and Mekhdi, perished. A resident of the village Tevzan Zulpukharov was found to be the culprit of the road accident, the "Grozny-Inform" News Agency reported in the evening on June 5.

"Thanks to the [...] efforts of the republic's clergy, this conflict was also settled. Casualties' relatives have forgiven the Zulpukharov family," the Agency has quoted an employee of the Chechen Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) as saying.

Many commentators to the post of the "Grozny-Inform" in the Instagram have welcomed the families' reconciliation. "Peace is a good thing," wrote, in particular, the user rinat_75. "Well done", the user kuznechikkkkuz has commented on the reconciliation decision.

Other social network users have doubted that the accident perpetrators should not be punished under the law for criminal offenses. "This is how they forgive; and then racing in their cars. They should be imprisoned, so that others would understand," the user lina__89 wrote, in particular. "I wouldn't forgive the blood of my loved one," the user hatayrat has noted. "Why put up [...] after all, the life taken away cannot be returned," the user artisan0102 has shared his bewilderment. "First, he'd put in jail for 20 years. And then you can forgive him," the user le_le_00001 is sure.
