Count of pupils who left Ninotsminda boarding school is 20

NGOs have welcomed the court's decision to spread the pupils of the boarding school named after Saint Nino in Ninotsminda among other institutions and relatives. By the evening of June 6, the number of children who left the boarding school reached 20.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that for almost a year, employees of the Georgian Ombudsperson's Office could not get into the above boarding school belonging to the Georgian Orthodox Church; the Archbishop of Shalta did not let social workers there either. On June 3, Nino Lomdjariya, the Georgian Ombudsperson, reported that since 2016, three criminal cases have been opened on violence in this school, and one case – on an alleged rape.

On June 6, 38 NGOs that specialize in the protection of children's rights appealed to the Georgian government about the situation in the Saint Nino Ninotsminda boarding school for orphans. In the NGOs' joint statement, the situation in the boarding school was treated as alarming. NGO activists have noted that the facts reported by former orphanage pupils were "tantamount to torture and ill-treatment."

According to the Georgia's Ministry of Public Health, as of the evening of June 6, a total of 20 pupils were taken out of the Ninotsminda boarding school, including seven minors with disabilities. The children have been distributed among alternative governmental services.
