Health condition of rights defender Ogtai Gyulyalyev worsens sharply
Ogtai Gyulyalyev, an Azerbaijani human rights defender, who has been in a coma since November 2019, has been placed into the intensive care unit of a Baku hospital. Doctors assess his condition as critical.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 29, 2019, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the head of the public alliance “Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners”, who held a press conference on the campaign against torture, was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing. On November 8, 2020, after long-term treatment in an Istanbul clinic, the human rights defender was transported home.
Ogtai's health condition had deteriorated sharply after he had his gastrostomy replaced, said his son, Tabriz Gyulyalyev. "An ambulance, having connecting my father to an artificial respiration unit, took him to the Central Clinical Hospital, since it is one of the most advanced in our country. Doctors assessed his condition as critical and linked it with cerebral deteriorations. He was placed into the intensive care unit. Now, doctors are taking measures to bring father out of the crisis and save his life," Tabriz has explained.
He has added that although his father had not completely come out of his coma, recently he reacted to voices with facial mimics and nods.
