ICRF to investigate ill-treatment of children in family of a Chechen resident

Two girls who lived with their father after the divorce of their parents were taken to a hospital with signs of beatings, and a criminal case was instituted on torture of minors, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported.

According to the investigators’ version, after the divorce of their parents, two sisters born in 2011 and 2012 lived with their father and stepmother.

The children were taken to the hospital with signs of beatings on their bodies and multiple abrasions and bruises. Investigators instituted a criminal case under the article on torture of minors, the ICRF’s Investigating Department for Chechnya reported on its website on September 17. The article provides for the punishment of up to seven years of imprisonment.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in Northern Caucasus, it is difficult for divorced women to obtain custody of their children if their former husbands decide to keep them for themselves. Relatives can interfere with the communication of a mother with her children and put pressure on the children themselves, human rights defenders noted after a report about the death of a four-year-old child in a family of a stepmother in Makhachkala.
