Journalists announce a marathon to repeal law on foreign agents
Today, several Russian media have organized a marathon with the demand to repeal the law on foreign agents and called it discriminatory. The “Caucasian Knot” has joined the protest action.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 14, more than 150 NGOs, media, charitable foundations, and other public organizations signed a petition demanding the abolition of the law on foreign agents. The petition is posted on Change.org and is addressed to the Russian State Duma, the Federation Council, and the Ombudsperson.
Today, the broadcast “Agents of the People. Marathon for the Abolition of the Laws ‘On Foreign Agents’” is being held on the “Dozhd”* (Rain) TV Channel’s YouTube channel. The “Caucasian Knot” has joined the marathon.
“On October 12, on the first day of the new Russian State Duma’s activity, we (‘Dozhd’*, ‘Meduza’*, ‘OVD-Info’*, ‘Novaya Gazeta’, ‘Ekho Moskvy’, ‘Mediazona’*) are holding a marathon demanding the repeal of the Law ‘On Foreign Agents’. The marathon is called ‘Agents of the People’. We want to draw public attention to the above-mentioned law, draw attention to the petition, which has already collected more than 160,000 signatures, and once again demand the abolition of the discriminatory law,” the annotation to the video broadcast reads.
The initiators of the marathon emphasize that “today, anyone can be declared a ‘foreign agent’. “The law threatens everyone. It must be abolished,” the publication says.
* The media outlet is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in the register of foreign agents.
