A woman from Karachay-Cherkessia suspected of involvement in ranks of Syrian militants

A woman from Karachay-Cherkessia moved to Syria in 2012 and joined militants, investigators suggested. The woman was put on the international wanted list.

According to the investigators’ version, back on October 25, 2012, a native of the Prikubansky District flew from Russia to Turkey from where she arrived in Syria. “Being in the city of Raqqa and sharing the religious-extremist ideology, the woman entered and took an active part in the activities of the armed formation,” the press service for the Investigating Department for Karachay-Cherkessia of the Investigating Committee (ICRF) reports today.

A criminal case against the 34-year-old woman was instituted by the ICRF’s Interdistrict Investigating Department for Ust-Djeguta. The case is being investigated under Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation on the territory of a foreign state in an armed formation not provided for by the legislation of the state, for purposes contradicting the interests of the Russian Federation).

“The woman has been put on the international wanted list,” reports a message posted on the ICRF’s Interdistrict Investigating Department for Ust-Djeguta.
