Dagestani resident's mother apologizes to Moscow metro attack victim

Relatives of Gasan Galibekov, a Dagestani accused of beating up a passenger in Moscow metro, have apologized to the victim, Roman Kovalyov and his mother, offering to help him with rehabilitation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that law enforcers arrested three residents of Dagestan on suspicion of brutally beating up Roman Kovalyov, a metro passenger, on October 4. According to investigators, the aggressively-minded group had severely beaten up the young man who stood up for a girl. The victim was hospitalized with traumas.

Relatives of one of the attackers have apologized to Roman Kovalyov, said Evgeny Korchago, the victim's advocate.

"Roman has accepted apologies from relatives of Gasan Galibekov (before November 10, he was referred to as Zalibekov in media) [...] the relatives are not guilty, but they had a desire to apologize," the RBC (RosBiznesConsulting) quoted the advocate as saying on November 10. Mr Korchago has added that Galibekov's mother, sister and cousin had apologized.

The advocate has noted that relatives offered to help the victim with rehabilitation, but so far no specific help has been discussed, since Roman is still undergoing his treatment.
