Speaker of Ingush parliament reacts to border conflict with Chechnya

The disputes in social media over the borders between Ingushetia and Chechnya can develop into a serious conflict between the two nations, and the conflicts should be resolved at negotiating table, states Magomet Tumgoev, the speaker of the Ingush parliament.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 11, the “Chechenavtodor” carried out excavation work on the bank of the Fortanga River, along which the border with Ingushetia passes, which provoked indignation in Ingushetia. Ramzan Kadyrov called those dissatisfied “a bunch of provocateurs who were trying to play the ace of nationalism.” In recent days, Ramzan Kadyrov has twice warned the Ingush side that if the manifestations of dissatisfaction with the current borders do not stop, the borders will be revised again, and again in favour of Chechnya. Ramzan Kadyrov even specified that he would get the Kremlin’s consent to seize eight villages from Ingushetia.

Magomet Tumgoev, the speaker of the parliament of Ingushetia, posted an appeal “to all peoples of our region who lived side by side for centuries,” in which he called to put an end to the confrontation in social media over the issue of the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya. According to Magomet Tumgoev, the aggravated conflict is to be resolved at negotiating table.
