Nightclub owners threaten Georgian authorities with large-scale protests
In the evening on December 22, several dozen nightclub employees held a protest action in Tbilisi, during which they demanded not to extend the restrictions imposed due to coronavirus. They stressed that should the authorities fail to meet their demands, they will be forced to hold larger-scale protests, the "Rustavi-2" TV Company has reported on its website today.
"We are under strong financial pressure and debts; we demand to be allowed to work in 2022," the website quotes Alexander Tamun, one of the activists, as saying.
Vakhtang Kavtaradze, another activist, has added that nightclub owners have been negotiating with authorities for several months, but there is no progress. "We intend to hold all the festive events that we had planned. And if the authorities close our clubs or seal up some premises, we'll have to resort to harsh forms of protest actions," the "Formula" TV Channel has quoted Mr Kavtaradze on its website today.
