Two residents of Georgia released in South Ossetia

The authorities of South Ossetia have released two Georgian citizens, the Georgian State Security Service reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that citizens of Georgia were repeatedly detained on the borderline between Georgia and South Ossetia. So, Georgian resident Mamuka Chkhikvadze was detained near the village of Zemo Nikozi at the border with South Ossetia. On December 19, the authorities of South Ossetia released Gela Gochoshvili, who had been detained in August for illegal crossing of the border.

On December 29, residents of Georgia were detained near the village of Gremiskhevi, the Georgian “First Channel” reported.

According to the State Security Service of Georgia, from the moment of the illegal detention of the Georgian citizens, a hotline and other mechanisms at the disposal of the central government were actively used to release them.

The authorities of South Ossetia have released two earlier detained Georgian citizens Nika Bezhitashvili and Kviriya Elizbarashvili, the “Ekho Kavkaza”* reports with reference to the Georgian State Security Service.

* The edition has been included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the list of the media performing the functions of a foreign agent.
