Zarema Musaeva arrested for two months in Chechnya

A court in Grozny ordered the arrest of Zarema Musaeva in a criminal case on the use of violence against a public officer.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 20, Zarema Musaeva, a spouse of retired federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev, was forcibly taken away by Chechen law enforcers from her apartment in Nizhny Novgorod to Grozny, where the court arrested her for 15 days. On January 28, Chechen law enforcers presented to the lawyers, who were trying to get a permission to visit Zarema Musaeva, her letter about refusing the services of an advocate. Human rights defenders, including lawyer Abubakar Yangulbaev, a son of Zarema Musaeva, said she was subjected to pressure. On January 31, it was reported that a criminal case had been instituted against Zarema Musaeva. According to the investigators’ version, the woman scratched the face of a law enforcer while she was in police custody.

On February 1, the Staropromyslovsky District Court of Grozny ordered to arrest Zarema Musaeva for two months, until April 1, the press service for the court reported.

Zarema Musaeva was sent to a SIZO (pre-trial prison) in a case instituted under Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of violence against a public officer, dangerous to life or health), reports the “Mediazona”* today with reference to the press service for the Staropromyslovsky District Court of Grozny.

* The publication has been put by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on the register of media performing the functions of a foreign agent.
