Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have adopted a resolution condemning Russia's special operation in Ukraine and called for tough sanctions. Russia must also compensate for the damage caused to Ukraine, the resolution has stated.

On March 1, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that Russian militaries had blocked the exit of Ukrainian troops to the Azov Sea. The authorities of Kharkov and Ukraine announced the missile attack on the city; the Russian MoD gave no comments on this information.

The MEPs adopted a resolution condemning the Russia's special operation in Ukraine and called for tough sanctions against Russia.

"The European Parliament condemns in the strongest possible terms the illegal, unprovoked and unjustified military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as the participation of Belarus in this aggression," says the text of the resolution. The MEPs have called on the European Union (EU) for new tough sanctions against Russia, including "aiming them at the strategic weakening of the economy and the military-industrial base and thereby [reducing] the ability of the Russian Federation to threaten the international security in the future," the TASS has quoted the resolution.

Besides, the MEPs believe that Russia should compensate for the damage caused to the infrastructure of Ukraine during the special operation.
