Social network users demand to counter rising prices in Dagestan
Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, has promised to punish entrepreneurs for unreasonable increases in foodstuff prices. However, some Instagram commentators assert that the cost of goods was raised by suppliers, not sellers. Other commentators demanded to bring those who raise prices to responsibility.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 4, residents of Makhachkala said that the prices for groceries in local stores had risen. The rouble depreciation has already affected the retail prices of goods, Dagestani entrepreneurs have noted.
The head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, has threatened to punish those entrepreneurs who unreasonably raise foodstuff prices. "How international sanctions could affect [prices for] bread, when stocks were prepared already last year? These are unscrupulous people whom we'll also identify and take the necessary measures," the RIA "Dagestan" quoted Mr Melikov as saying in the evening ob March 4.
The words of the head of Dagestan about the inadmissibility of raising foodstuff prices were published on March 4 in the page of the Instagram public dagizvestiyaa. Some commentators demanded to punish businessmen for raising prices.
"We ask you, please take action," the user pa.timat202 has asked.
Other commentators pointed to the widespread price growth. "Not only for foodstuffs; they've increased prices for everything," said the user shtukaturmaster_05. "And bread, and sugar, and cereals, and so on – everything is now more expensive," the user 19elklass69 has emphasized.
Some commentators said that stores are not to blame for the increase in foodstuff prices. "And what should we, shops, do, if the goods are sold to us by 20-30% more expensive than before?" the user alieva_lari has asked.
