Film director Kantemir Balagov announces his departure from Russia
Kantemir Balagov, a film director from Nalchik, said that he had left Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine. Producer Alexander Rodnyansky approved the decision of Kantemir Balagov, and a State Duma member from Dagestan condemned artists leaving the country.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the film “Dylda” directed by Kantemir Balagov won several prizes at international film festivals. On January 16, 2021, it became known that Kantemir Balagov was invited to Hollywood to film “The Last of Us” series based on a computer game.
On March 6, Kantemir Balagov announced on Instagram his departure from Russia.
“Some artists, bloggers, and oligarchs have preferred ‘islands of happiness’ in other countries to their homeland. They earn money here, but run away at the first difficulties!” wrote Biysultan Khamzaev, a State Duma member from Dagestan.
He believes that “re-entry should be prohibited for all those who have fled.”
