Colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev hold pickets in Makhachkala
Today, Magomed Magomedov, a colleague of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), has held a solo picket in Makhachkala with the demand to stop the criminal case against Abdulmumin Gadjiev. Dagestani journalist Idris Yusupov held a solo picket demanding the release of political prisoners.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that activists regularly hold solo pickets in the centre of Makhachkala in defence of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested journalist of the weekly “Chernovik”. So, on March 7, colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev held three pickets.
Abdulmumin Gadjiev had been charged with financing terrorism. Investigators assert that Abdulmumin and his accomplices had raised 68 million roubles and USD 200,000 for terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. Gadjiev insists on his innocence. His colleagues treat his prosecution as pressure on him because of his journalistic activities.
Today, two solo pickets have been held at the intersection of Gamzatov and Dakhadaev Streets in the centre of Makhachkala with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev and political prisoners, the “Chernovik” reports.
One of the pickets was held by Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”. He demanded to stop the criminal case against Abdulmumin Gadjiev. “Idris Yusupov, a journalist from the newspaper “Novoye Delo” (New Clause), was the second to unfold his poster with the inscription ‘Freedom to political prisoners’,” the newspaper reports.
Today, the newspaper has posted a photo from the picket in its Telegram channel. “We demand freedom for journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev and demand to close the absurd criminal case!” says the post with a photograph of the picket held by the journalist of the “Chernovik”.
