Belan: "I think that Andrei Keilin's case is already not so much of criminal character, but rather of political one"

Today, the Judicial Panel of the Stavropol Territorial Court, having considered the cassation petition lodged by Andrei Keilin, 20, a resident of Cherkessk, detained on suspicion of participation in the murder of two Stavropol students, that requested to change his freedom restriction measure (release from custody), has rejected the petition. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it today by Roman Belan, detainee's advocate.

On June 22, the Court also rejected a similar petition lodged by the advocate.

Earlier, advocate Belan stated: "I think that Andrei Keilin's case is already not so much of criminal or criminal-procedural character, but rather of political one. Apart from four witnesses who support A. Keilin's alibi, the defence has material proofs of his innocence... Andrei Keilin was really detained contrary to the law. Therefore, I intend to address Alexei Selyukov, Ombudsman for the Stavropol Territory."

"According to the information at our disposal, Andrei Keilin, detained on suspicion of murdering two students in Stavropol, has already twice passed his test on the so-called 'lie detector,' and the verdict of the polygraph machine was: innocent by 99.9%," Alexei Akintiev, one of the leaders of the Union of Slav Public Organizations of the Stavropol Territory, explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on June 13.

According to Mr Akintiev, all the charges are built only on external likeness of the detainee with the identikit compiled from the words of the witnesses.
