Two residents of Chechnya convicted of intending to leave for Syria

The Gudermes City Court of Chechnya has sentenced two local residents to two years and eight months in colony each for their intention to leave for Syria and participate in an illegal armed formation (IAF) there. The Chechen Supreme Court (SC) has toughened the punishment by ruling that part of the term they should serve in prison.

According to investigators, Islam Mutaev and Tamerlan Albekov failed to leave for Syria. They have fully admitted their guilt, but refused to testify. They have been in custody since March 2021, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2021, the military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Ali Yakhyaev, a native of Chechnya, to five years in colony, finding him guilty of trying to go to Syria with the aim to join a terrorist organization there.
