Kuban governor doubts outcomes of All-Russian census
According to the official results of the All-Russian census, the population of the Krasnodar Territory (also known as Kuban by the name of the main river) is over 5.8 million. However, according to Veniamin Kondratiev, the governor, judging by the number of schoolchildren, there are more residents in the Territory.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the All-Russian census was held from October 15 to November 14, 2021. A feature of that year's census was an extended list of questions about languages, including the language of everyday communication.
The Governor Kondratiev has treated the outcomes of the All-Russian census as "ambiguous." "According to the "Rosstat" (Russian Federal Service of State Statistics), 5,838,273 people live in Kuban. But judging by the increase in the number of schoolchildren only it is obvious that there are more residents in the Territory," he wrote on September 2 in his Telegram channel.
The Governor has no doubts that the number of Kuban residents has increased. "Nevertheless, it is clear how much our region has grown over these years. Now, we are the third in Russia in terms of the number of residents. And Krasnodar has finally officially received the status of a million-plus city," Mr Kondratiev has added.
