Chechnya's society initiates dismissal of Military Prosecutor
The Chechen society asks the Russian Prosecutor-General's Office to audit the activities of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the United Military Grouping in Northern Caucasus, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio broadcasts.
On the outcomes of the audit, the public organizations ask to consider the issue of conformity of Military Prosecutor Maksim Toporikov to his position, the IA "Interfax" reports. He is imputed dozens of cases, when kidnapping facts were not investigated. At the same time, representatives of the public speak highly of Toporikov's predecessor - prosecutor Alexander Mokritskiy.
The "Kommersant" newspaper adds that the official Chechen human rights defender - Ombudsman Nurdi Nukhazhiev - also put his signature under the appeal of 29 public organizations.
Meanwhile, an anonymous employee of the Republic's Prosecutor's Office has expressed his assumption that, most probably, President Ramzan Kadyrov stands behind the action of public figures and human rights activists.
The source reminded the story, when Mr Nukhazhiev attained dismissal of Vladimir Chernov, First Prosecutor Deputy of the Republic, who was disliked by the President. The newspaper reminds that soon after Chernov, another power officer disliked by Chechen leader - Ahmed Khasanbekov, head of the Operative-Search Bureau (OSB-2) under the Chief Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the South Federal District, had also to leave his post.
In the opinion of local observers, the main cause of Chechen leader's dislike of the OSB-2 lies in the fact that this structure is not subordinated to him.
