Mother of perished Sochi policeman demands to investigate her son's death

Alexei Belyakov, a Sochi policeman, was found dead in his car five years ago. All these years, investigators would not look for the perpetrators, Alexei's mother asserts.

The message of Lyubov Belyakova, a Sochi resident, was received by the "Caucasian Knot" SMS service on November 30. "According to investigators, it was a suicide, but he was an operative officer of the police division; the situation had to do with extortion of a bribe and illegal frauds with land plots. I believe that the body was not examined; and the results of the forensic medical examination were falsified," Ms Belyakova has written.

According to her story, the criminal case on the fact of her son's death, initiated five years ago, is not being investigated.

"He had worked in the drug police. He'd always been a cheerful, very attentive son, husband and father," Lyubov Belyakova has recollected.

According to her story, she received a phone call and was told that her son had been found dead in his car. All his belongings were confiscated. Later, she learned that the examination of the body was carried out retroactively.

She seeks to ensure that "the people involved in the death of her son were punished and held accountable."

"Imitation of gas poisoning is a very common method of murder," said Sergey Kostyuk, an advocate, adding that the fact that "investigators have been dragging on for five years already suggests that it is preferable for someone not to investigate this case."
