Decision on paying compensations to residents of Chechnya for destroyed housing cancelled
The appellate instance has overturned the decision of the Grozny court, which had obliged authorities to pay compensations for the lost housing to the residents of the Shali District who had suffered from the earthquake.
The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has refused to compensate residents of Chechnya for their housing destroyed by the 2008 earthquake. Earlier, the Grozny court sided with the claimants, but the Ministry of Finance achieved the cancellation of this decision, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project has reported.
The affected residents of the Shali District had waited for their certificates for almost 10 years, but then it turned out that the administration of the village of Avtury failed to include them into the lists. 25 residents of Chechnya filed a lawsuit against the Russian Ministry of Finance.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance is not authorized to "provide funds for the redemption of state housing certificates" for the prevention and elimination of emergency situations and the consequences of natural disasters.
