Residents of Chechnya reprimanded publicly by law enforcers for drinking alcohol
A video of law enforcers chastising a group of residents of the Urus-Martan District for drinking alcohol in public places and driving while intoxicated has been posted in social media. Relatives of the offenders promised to "educate them"; and the detainees "have sincerely repented," the police have informed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Chechen law enforcers are regularly chastising local residents on various occasions. Thus, in December 2022, a young man was detained in the Kurchaloi District and reprimanded under video recording for violating traffic rules.
A peculiarity of "prophylactic talks" in Chechnya is in the desire to humiliate offenders, Svetlana Gannushkina*, a human rights defender, has pointed out.
The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that the video, in which law enforcers chastise six schoolgirls and their parents in the Urus-Martan District, posted in January, sparked a negative reaction of social network users. Commentators then stated that law enforcers had failed to explain what the girls' guilt was and why it was necessary to post the record of their reprimand for public watching.
