Court sides with Chechen police in dispute with perished law enforcer's mother

The court of appeal in Chechnya has upheld the refusal to satisfy the lawsuit of Bahumesedo Khamidova, who asked the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to award the order to her son, a policeman, who perished in 2002.

The court referred to the expiration of the deadline for filing a claim, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports.

According to the case files, on September 3, 2002, Khamidova's son died along with other policemen in the village of Chiri-Yurt, where a law enforcers' vehicle was blown up. Khamidova has pointed out that police bosses had promised to present those who perished for awards.

However, for several years the documents were not sent to the presidential administration, where decisions are made on state awards, Ms Khamidova has added.

The first-instance court had justifiably dismissed the lawsuit "in view of its groundlessness," the appellate instance has decided.
