Court upholds sentence of a military man from Adygea for refusing to go to Ukraine

A court of appeal upheld the verdict to Andrei Karachentsev, a contract soldier from Adygea, who was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony for refusing to participate in the special military operation in Ukraine. The defence announced the intention to file an appeal against the court’s decision.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 18, in Maikop, a military court sentenced Sergeant Andrei Karachentsev to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony. The defendant partially admitted his guilt and explained that he failed to comply with the order due to worsening illnesses.

The sergeant was found guilty of failure to comply with the order during the period of mobilization. In particular, in Volgograd, a court sentenced contract soldier Vyacheslav Pikalov under the same article to two years of imprisonment in a penal colony.

Advocate Maxim Grebenyuk told the “Kommersant-Kuban” publication that in March, during the formation of the military unit’s personnel, the military man refused to comply with the order to go to the special military operation (SMO) zone. The man explained his refusal by an exacerbation of his disease.

Andrei Karachentsev served in Adygea under his contract in an artillery platoon since 2018, the “93.ru” portal reports.
