Ingush resident accuses police of fabricating case on possession of grenade against him

In Ingushetia, a court left Rasukhan Matsiev, accused of possessing a grenade, in custody, despite the defendant’s complaint that the ammunition had been planted to him by law enforcers during a search.

Rasukhan Matsiev, a resident of the Nazran District, accused of illegal possession of an explosive device, complained that the evidence had been planted by the law enforcers, the “Kavkaz.Realii”* reports with reference to the court’s resolution on the selection of a pre-trial restriction measure for Rasukhan Matsiev.

In the complaint, and advocate of Rasukhan Matsiev indicated that the court “was not presented with a single piece of evidence” that Rasukhan Matsiev would hide from court “or could engage in criminal activities and threaten witnesses or other participants in the trial.” The advocate also pointed out that the court did not properly check the validity of the charges against Rasukhan Matsiev.

The court of appeal found no grounds to cancel the decision on the defendant’s arrest for two months, until February 20.
