Case on Dagestani resident's involvement in "USSR"* sent to court

The inquiry into the case of Kadi Gadjiev, a resident of Dagestan, whom investigators treat as a cell member of the extremist organization "Union of Rus' Slavic Forces"*, is over.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2023, the court sentenced Makhmud Ibadulaev, a Makhachkala resident, to two years and two months in penal colony, finding him guilty of participating in the activities of an extremist organization. According to the court, he was a member of the "Union of Rus' Slavic Forces"*. On February 15, 2024, the Dagestani Supreme Court (SC) upheld the verdict.

According to investigators, from November 1, 2020, to March 12, 2022, Kadi Gadjiev was a member of the executive committee of the Makhachkala City Council of People's Deputies of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the then RSFSR/USSR - a part of the USSR.

Let us recall that on May 13, 2023, it became known that the court had sentenced Tatiana Fomina, a Makhachkala resident, to three years of conditional imprisonment (probation) for taking part in the "USSR"* organization. The lawyers then noted that the article under which Fomina was accused gives judges a chance to impose fines.

Also, the court in Makhachkala found Ruslan Abdullaev guilty of being a member of a cell of the "USSR citizens"* and sentenced him to a term in a colony, but with account of the time he had spent under arrest, he was released in the courtroom. The prosecutor's office demanded to toughen the sentence, and the Dagestani SC added six months of freedom restriction to the verdict.

*In 2019, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic recognized the "Union of Rus' Slavic Forces" (one of the group of movements that also includes "USSR Citizens") as an extremist organization.
