Court mitigates verdict to Khasavyurt resident for fakes about Russian Army

The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has reduced the term of forced labour by two years for Shakhban Abakargadjiev, a resident of Khasavyurt, within his case of military fakes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 1, 2024, the Dagestani SC overturned the sentence of Shakhban Abakargadjiev and returned the case for a retrial. Then, the court in Khasavyurt sentenced Abakargadjiev to five years of forced labour, finding him guilty of disseminating fakes about Russian militaries.

On November 8, 2023, the Khasavyurt City Court found Abakargadjiev guilty of spreading fake news about the Russian Army and sentenced him to five years in penal colony, but replaced the sentence with a more lenient one – three years of correctional labour with a three-year ban on administering Internet websites.

As reported by the human rights project "Network Freedoms", his term of forced labour was reduced to three years with a 10% deduction from his salary for the state benefit. Shakhban will be able to serve his sentence at his main workplace, says the project's Telegram channel.

Let us remind you that, according to investigators, Abakargadjiev had posted his comments in a social network about civilians of Ukraine killed in the Kyiv Region. In court, he admitted his guilt, explaining that he placed the posts "in anger after his dead nephew was brought from Ukraine."

The human rights project "Support for political prisoners. Memorial" declared Shakhban Abakargadjiev as a political prisoner and demanded his release.
