New expertise issue slows down consideration of murder case of 19-year-old Magomed-Ali Sultanov
After a month of deliberation, the prosecutor has agreed to conduct a new examination of the body of Magomed-Ali Sultanov, 19, a resident of the Dagestani village of Kayakent. However, the judge postponed his decision on this issue for almost another month, explaining that he needed to study the previous data.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 31 it became known that the court denied the defence's and the suffered party's motion demanding to exclude the examination of Sultanov's body from the case. The court gave the prosecutor a month to think about whether a comprehensive examination is needed.
According to investigators, on November 10, 2022, near Kayakent, the accused person stabbed the 19-year-old Magomed-Ali Sultanov multiple times, and he died from his wounds. According to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), there was only one attacker, but the video released by the police shows that four people were involved in the brawl. On November 24, 2022, the relatives of the murdered young man held a gathering, claiming that the attackers were trying to avoid punishment.
On October 2, 2024, the court again failed to rule about a new comprehensive examination, Ilyas Saidov, an advocate representing the interests of the Sultanov family, has stated.
On May 30, 2024, the forensic expert admitted in court that in his report he had described not all the wounds on Magomed-Ali Sultanov's body. This raises serious doubts about the reliability of the expertise, Vyacheslav Savin, a lawyer, has noted.
