In Abkhazia, Sigua's relatives demand from Georgia to provide information about his whereabouts
Today in the morning, in front of the Galskiy UN Office, a protest rally was held by relatives of David Sigua, a citizen of Abkhazia and head of the local electoral commission who was kidnapped on February 3, 2007, by Georgian special agencies. They demanded to provide them with the information about the kidnapped person, of whose fate nothing is known for more than a year.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent informs that neighbours, friends and representatives of the administration of the Galskiy District have joined the protesters.
"After detention in March 2007 of Georgian students who took part in a dramatized 'performance' staged by Georgian authorities, where they played the roles of residents of the Galskiy District allegedly unwilling to take part in parliamentary elections in Abkhazia, the 'Imedi' TV Company organized a live broadcast, during which an opportunity was discussed to exchange David Sigua for the students. Then, all the participants of the program unanimously voted for the exchange. The authorities of Abkhazia made their humane step - they returned the students, but the issue of Sigua remained unsolved," Mr Sigua's wife has stated.
"My husband is forgotten by everybody, including representatives of the United Nations who keep declaring from high rostrums their respect of human rights," Irina Pipiya has emphasized.
According to the information at disposal of the Abkhazian authorities, Georgia special services killed Sigua in the first days after kidnapping, however, would not admit it.
