Additional troops and armoured vehicles deployed in Nazran

Additional forces of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and armoured vehicles have been deployed in the city of Nazran (Ingushetia).

The RIA "Novosti" reports that armoured troop carriers (ATCs) and lorries with soldiers made a kilometre-long column from the southern suburb of Nazran (the cemetery) to Chechenskaya Street.

The situation in the city is quiet.

"The regime was strengthened because of the festivities on March 8, the Women's Day," said Musa Medov, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia.

Speaking about the Congress of the Ingush Nation, Mr Medov said that it would not be held. "According to the law, it can be convoked by the President of the Republic only. If small groups of people rally together somewhere, we'll conduct some explanatory work with them according to the legislation," said the Minister.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that the Prosecutor's Office of Ingushetia had initiated cases on administrative offences against the members of the organizing committee of the Congress, and the respective materials had been sent to the magistrate court for consideration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the initiative group consisting of representatives of local opposition had planned to hold the 5th Extraordinary Congress of Ingush Nation on March 8 with the aim to discuss the situation in the Republic and to create an NGO in Ingushetia representing various tribes.
