European Commission allots 11 million euros to Chechen war victims
The Commission of European Communities (CEC) has approved granting humanitarian aid in the sum of 11 million euros to the victims of the armed conflict in Chechnya.
The representative office of the European Commission in Moscow has informed today that internally displaced persons in Chechnya and refugees in the neighbouring regions and countries will be recipients of the humanitarian aid.
"The humanitarian assistance to vulnerable groups of population will be concentrated basically on their legal protection, help in rebuilding their houses, increase of incomes, and defence of mothers and children," sources from the European Commission assert.
The funds will go through the CEC's Bureau for Humanitarian Aid headed by Louis Michel.
