Sarishvili to appeal against verdict to Giorgadze supporters at the Supreme Court of Georgia and European Court

Irina Sarishvili plans to bring the suit of Giorgadze supporters to the Supreme Court of Georgia and, in parallel, to the European Court for Human Rights. This has become known after the Tbilisi Court of Appeal failed to satisfy the claim lodged by supporters of Igor Giorgadze, ex-Minister for Security of Georgia and leader of the "Justice" opposition party. The detainees tried to appeal against the decision of the Tbilisi City Court.

Ms Sarishvili, who is the leader of the Political Movement "Imedi" and also one of Giorgadze supporters, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that this case will become history.

In his turn, Gela Nikoleishvili, one of the advocates in the case, has also confirmed that Giorgadze supporters are going to protest against this decision. "Although without great hopes, we still plan to appeal against it. First, at the Supreme Court, then, at the European Court for Human Rights. I think that in Strasbourg we can succeed, since the case has lots of violations and discrepancies," Mr Nikoleishvili said.

Let us note here that after the court session a small protest action was held at the court building in support of the imprisoned supporters of Igor Giorgadze.

We remind you that on August 24 the Tbilisi City Court passed a verdict to 12 supporters of Igor Giorgadze, ex-Minister for Security, who was accused of a putsch attempt and announced into international search.
