Russian-Georgian postal, marine and air communication stopped
It has become known today that, like in 2006, the postal and marine communication between Russia and Georgia has been suspended. The air communication was stopped on August 9.
"Currently, no letters and parcels to Georgia are accepted. The reason is in interruption of air flights which were the main channel for correspondence delivery," said Elena Laskina, press secretary of the Telecom Ministry of Russia.
Also, according to the RIA "Novosti" no postal money orders are accepted.
The marine communication with Georgia was also stopped today. The Sochi Sea Port reports that steamship "Mikhail Svetlov", which makes regular trips to Batumi since March, was scheduled to depart today at 6:00 p.m., but the trip was cancelled.
According to Semyon Mamaladze, Deputy Director General of the Sochi Sea Trading Port, the decision to suspend the communication was made on the basis of the information that the port of Batumi had stopped to receive marine vessels, the ITAR-TASS reports.
We remind you that Georgia and Russia resumed their marine, air and air postal communication only in spring this year.
