Azerbaijan: foreign diplomats visit imprisoned journalist

On October 27, representatives of the Baku OSCE office, US, French and Norwegian embassies and local human rights organizations paid a visit to Colony No. 14 to meet the convicted satirist of the "Azadlyg" (Freedom) newspaper Mirza Sakit (Sakit Zakhidov).

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by Elchin Bekhbudov, a participant of the meeting and the chair of the Committee against Torture. However, he refused to give details as "the meeting was closed."

Concerning Sakit's state of health, Mr Bekhbudov has noted that his condition "is somewhat better, but he still feels pain in his body." As to the issue of transferring Sakit to another colony, this problem should be solved in the near future, as the human rights activist said.
