Azerbaijani baklava claims for Guinness Book of Records

Administration of the city of Gyandzha, Azerbaijan, plans to bake a huge baklava (a sort of oriental candy) for the Novruz Bairam holiday, which by its size will claim to be included into the Guinness Book of Records.

"The participants of the holiday will see a 3-ton baklava 12 meters long and 4 meters wide. Foreign experts will be invited to take part in the holiday intentionally for including the baklava into the Guinness Book of Records," the Mayoralty of Gyandzha has stated.

The "Interfax" reports that the baklava will be cut into pieces and spread among the population of the city on March 16 during the Novruz in Geidar Aliev Square in Gyandzha.

Traditionally in Azerbaijan, a series of events are organized by the Novruz holiday. This year, on March 16-22 Baku will hold an international festival "Novruz in Azerbaijan-2009". The aim of the festival is to acquaint the youth of other countries with the traditions, customs, history and culture of Azerbaijan, as the "Regnum" Agency reports.
