Forced migrants fear to move from Ingushetia to Chechnya

Forced migrants from Chechnya who live in temporary accommodation centres (TACs) in Ingushetia are forced to come back home. They say they have nowhere to go.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that, according to the Chechen Department of the Federal Migratory Service, during the last three years 3121 persons returned from Ingushetia to Chechnya.

The Chechen authorities have again made a decision to address the problem of how to return their compatriots still living in TACs located in the neighbouring Ingushetia back home. Yesterday, on March 25, several families who had until recently lived in Ingushetia, were brought to Grozny and housed in allocated apartments. The authorities promise to render every necessary help to returnees. The latter, however, have serious doubts.

On March 13, at the meeting held in Grozny President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov demanded from administration head of Republic's districts to bring all the forced migrants from Ingushetia home and help them.

Asu Dudurkaev, head of the Chechen Department of the Federal Migration Service (FMS), reported to the President that his order had been fulfilled by that time.

However, some of the migrants, who still live in Ingushetia, assert that they do not know where to return. Moreover, according to the people, who came to meet them, representatives of Chechen authorities insist on their immediate return without granting any guarantees.

"Last year, some my friends left for Chechnya, and until now they huddle at houses of their relatives and friends, although they had been also promised some housing or at least building materials to build houses, etc. We'd be happy to come back home, but we just have nowhere to go."
