Russian national football team beats Azerbaijani counterparts

Under the 2010 World Cup qualification round, the Russian national football team has defeated their Azerbaijani opponents 2:0. However, Gus Hiddink, coach of the Russian party, was not quite happy: he had hoped for a more convincing victory.

"We could have been more aggressive in the attack. We had a lot of chances to score, but failed many of them. On the other hand, our defence was not bad," Mr Hiddink said after the match in the "Luzhniki" Stadium.

Azerbaijani coach Bertie Vogts agreed with this estimate. "Hiddink's team gave us a good lesson today," he said. "In spite of the fact that our team has a lot of young players, who lack experience, I've nothing to reproach them of," the 7 TV quotes Bertie Vogts as saying.

Let us note here that the victory of the Russian team was the third in a row in the qualifying tournament for the 2010 World Cup. Russia keeps the second place in the group after four games, while Azerbaijan is one but last, ahead of Liechtenstein.
