State prosecutor in Nalchik attack case gives details of events on October 13, 2005
On April 16, at the session of the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria trying the case about attack on Nalchik, Olga Chibinyova, head of the group of state prosecution, continued disclosing the indictment and passed over to episode-by-episode description of the events on October 13, 2005.
She told, in particular, about the "actions of groups of militants", who committed on October 13, 2005, armed attacks on the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), OVD (Interior Departments) Nos. 1 and 2 of Nalchik, OMON (Special Militia), Sports centre "Dynamo" of the KBR's MIA and shop "Okhotnik" (Hunter). In the course of these attacks both law enforcers and civilians were killed and wounded.
According to Ms Chibinyova, in the attack on the building of the KBR's MIA, 4 militiamen were wounded and the damage of the building was evaluated as more than 841,000 roubles; in the attack on OVD No. 1 in Nalchik, 2 militiamen were killed and 15 persons wounded, and the building was damaged to the sum of above 2.182 million roubles; in the attack on OVD No. 2, one militiaman was killed, 8 militiamen and 5 civilians were wounded, and the damage was caused to the sum of over 2.981 million roubles.
The state prosecutor also told about the group that had prepared an attack on the UBOP (Department to Fight Organized Crime) of the KBR's MIA. According to Chibinyova, the group gathered in a summer cottage in cooperative "Landysh" (May Lily), where hideouts with firearms were prepared in advance. "On the eve of the attack, a signal arrived to the militia on duty unit that armed people were noticed near one of summer cottages," Ms Chibinyova reported. "Special agents who went to the place neutralized the group. In the collision, five persons were killed, the others - later detained."
