Georgia casts official xenophobia accusations on Russia

The parliament of Georgia has unanimously adopted a statement officially condemning the authorities of Russia for escalating xenophobia in relation to ethnic Georgians, the "Pravda.ru" repots.

"The parliament of Georgia is expressing its indignation and protest in connection with massive violations of fundamental human rights, manifestations of xenophobia and ethnic-based discrimination admitted by representatives of Russian leadership in relation to citizens of Georgia and ethnic Georgians who live in Russia," the statement of Georgian deputies runs.

"Xenophobia and ethnic-based discrimination have actually become some sort of governmental instruments Russia is using to achieve political objectives," the "Interfax" is quoting the statement.

The parliament of Georgia is confident that "the sanctions introduced by Russia are directed against the whole of Georgian nation and not against a certain political group."

The "Lenta.ru" writes that the discontent of the official Tbilisi was caused by the campaign unleashed in Russia against Georgian illegal migrants and criminal authorities, and by a ban on transport and postal communications with Georgia.
