Georgian NGOs will defend rights of Georgian citizens at the European Court

Georgian non-governmental organizations are commencing their litigation at the European Court on the facts of mass deportation of Georgian citizens and violations of fundamental human rights in Russia. This was reported by Mari Chokhadze, executive director of the NGO "Article 42 of Constitution," at the October 24 press conference.

On this issue, the "Article 42 of Constitution" will closely cooperate with the Association of Young Lawyers and relies in defence of the rights of Georgian citizens on partnership and assistance from such international organizations like the European Lawyers' Centre for Defence of Human Rights, British "Interights" Organization, and the human rights NGOs who operate directly in Russia and are ready to cooperate with Georgian counterparts on the issue. Mari Chokhadze noted that the "Article 42 of Constitution" is also cooperating with the Russian Human Rights Centre "Memorial" within the Project "Defence Capacity Building for Men and Women Who Submit Complaints Versus the Russian Federation to the European Court for Human Rights," jointly with the European Lawyers' Centre for Defence of Human Rights.

Ms. Chokhadze noted that the European Convention on Human Rights prohibits massive deportation of foreigners, while, under the available data, this is just what the Russian government is doing in relation to citizens of Georgia.
