Anti-War Committee: murderers of Novye Aldy residents live in St. Petersburg

Exactly 7 years ago, on February 5, 2000, in the settlement of Novye Aldy of the Zavodskoj District of the city of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, was subjected to the so-called "zachistka" (clean-up) committed by the units of Russian militia. In the course of "special action," according to various sources, they murdered from 56 to 115 inhabitants of the settlement. The Anti-War Committee of Saint Petersburg has made a statement dated to the accident. The authors have delivered its text to the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot."

"Plenty of peaceful residents died, were burned down alive, wounded and mutilated. And early in February 2000, the federal troops reported to their commanders that there were no militants in this village, and that the troops passed through it. After them, "OMON" (Special Militia) came, and the hell started - a clean-up," the members of the Anti-War Committee report.

"Who did this?" the opponents of Kremlin's policy in North Caucasus ask, and give an immediate answer: "It follows from the response of the Military Office of Public Prosecutor - on 05.02.00, the clean-up of the Novye Aldy settlement was made by "OMON" of Saint Petersburg."

"After the global disclosure of this crime, Russian authorities promised to find and punish the criminals. Seven years have passed. The murderers live in our city, close to us," the Anti-War Committee asserts.
